Frog Forage Lightning Swamp
The search is on, so hop along to join Nearer to Nature and the City of Bayswater in this fun family adventure! Pop on your gumboots and come foraging for frogs at Lightning Swamp. Starting with an animal encounter you will meet some native species, then learn about the local frogs on an adventure through Lightning Swamp to see what species we can find in the night.

Little Bee Explorers: Meet the Scientist
Join Nearer to Nature and native bee expert Dr Kit Prendergast for Little Bee Explorers, a fun and hands-on adventure designed especially for curious young learners! They’ll explore the wonderful world of native bees, learning what they look like, how they live, and what they do in winter, before buzzing into action. Then get busy with bee movements and imaginative play. Enjoy a bee-themed story, explore the bush on a gentle walk to find bee-friendly plants, and finish by creating seed bombs to help support bees at home. Please note, this IS NOT a drop and leave activity.

Camp Cooking and Culture
Looking for something different these school holidays? Join Nearer to Nature for a unique outdoor experience that fosters a deeper connection to Country. Gather around the kKarla (campfire) to cook damper, take on a discovery challenge using symbolic clues, and explore Indigenous knowledge of the land with a cultural educator. Along the way, create a natural bush remedy and begin to uncover the stories held within the landscape, who has walked here before you? Finish the day by the fire, relaxing, sharing stories, and enjoying good food together. This is a drop off activity.

Calling Kooyar - frog adventure
Join Nearer to Nature as we hop into these school holidays with our fun froggy program at the City of Melville Eco Hhub. Little explorers will discover the fascinating features of frogs, learn about their life cycle, and understand why frogs are important. They’ll listen to local frog calls, embark on a mini exploration, and create a froggy craft to take home. Please note this IS NOT a drop and leave activity.

Frog Forage – Meet the Scientist @ CREEC
The search is on, join Nearer to Nature and expert frog scientist from the Western Australian Museum, for an educational night-time exploration of local frog habitats. Pull on your gumboots and head out to the Canning River Eco Education Centre as we investigate wetland ecosystems after dark. You’ll learn how to identify native frog species, recognise their distinctive calls, and understand the vital role they play in maintaining healthy environments. In this guided walk, participants will use their observation and listening skills to explore nocturnal wildlife, building knowledge of biodiversity and the importance of conserving these unique amphibians.

Wonderful Waterbirds
Eric Singleton Bird Sanctuary is home to a range of water birds of all shapes and sizes. Join the River Guardians in Bayswater to discover why each bird has a different beak and body shape and how their special features help them survive in and around the water. Scoop through the water to investigate what these birds are eating and find out why we should all say NO to feeding birds bread! We'll play some games for you to learn about the dangers facing these birds, and how we can all help protect them. Please note this IS NOT a drop and leave activity

Dolphin Discovery
Get to know the dolphins that call the Swan Canning River Park home through interactive games and activities. Join the River Guardians at the Canning River Eco Education Centre to listen to the sounds dolphins make and learn how they swim, jump and catch food, then play a game to show us your best dolphin impression! Have a go at identifying the Swan River dolphins using our FinBook guide and then go on a walk along the river to see if you can spot them. Discover some of the things that can hurt our dolphins and what we can all do to keep them safe. Finish the morning by making some dolphin craft. Please note this IS NOT a drop and leave activity

You’ll discover simple, practical ways to safely remoldremould, remake, and reuse everyday plastic items, transforming them from litter into your very own cool new creations. Plastics with Purpose: Start a Project
Plastic pollution is one of the biggest challenges facing our oceans and wildlife, but you can build the skills to do something about it. Join Nearer to Nature and REida Perth in this interactive session designed to help you launch a real-world plastic reuse project. Whether you want to start a movement at school, get creative at home, or lead an initiative in your local community, you'll learn how to intercept discarded plastics and prototypeturn and turn them into functional, well-designed new creations. Bring your ideas, collaborate with others, and discover how to turn a creative concept into an active environmental solution.

Pathways to Conservation: Marine and Wetlands
Are you passionate about nature and curious about what a career protecting wildlife and the environment could look like? Come along and meet DBCA’s Parks and Wildlife staff to get a real behind-the-scenes look at their jobs.
In this session, you’ll hear from our River Guardians science communicator, marine ranger, and wetland and estuarine scientist. They’ll share their stories and explain, how they got started, and the pathways that led them to where they are today. You’ll also learn about the skills and experiences you can gain through our graduate program and other opportunities, that can help you follow a similar path.

Dolphin Discovery
Join the River Guardians at Sandy Beach Reserve in Bassendean for a fun and interactive session where you’ll explore how dolphins communicate, move, and survive in their river environment. Listen to real dolphin sounds, discover how they swim, jump and catch food, and show off your best dolphin moves in a fun group game!
Using the FinBook guide, you’ll learn how to identify individual dolphins by their unique fins. Find out what threats they face and the simple actions we can all take to help keep them safe. Finish the morning by creating and decorating your very own dolphin craft to take home. Children must be accompanied by a supervising adult. Suitable for children aged 4-7yrs.
