Kalgulup Regional Park eBook

Discover Kalgulup Regional Park in this free educational guide—a journey through rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and community connection.

Kalgulup Regional Park
Ian Brodie

The Kalgulup Regional Park eBook is a free guide to the important and fascinating natural areas around Bunbury and the Leschenault Estuary. The park features diverse ecosystems including coastal dunes, river foreshores, bushland, and the State’s southernmost white mangrove community.

In an urban and semi-rural setting, the park also serves as a valuable recreational space for the Bunbury community. Activities such as walking, birdwatching, and connecting with nature promote community well-being and foster a deeper appreciation for the environment.

The name ‘Kalgulup,’ meaning ‘place of fire’ in Noongar language, reflects the area's cultural heritage on the traditional lands of the Pinjarup, Wadandi, Kaneang, and Wiilmen peoples. The park also holds stories of a rich maritime heritage and the growth of Bunbury from a small settlement to a significant regional city today.

The enhanced eBook uses photos, audiovisual content, and interactive timelines to explore the park’s natural and cultural values, serving as both a visitor guide and an educational resource to inspire connection with the land and its heritage.

Content warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this publication contains images or names of deceased people.
