Site access

The white sand beach in front of the Monkey Mia Visitor Centre and adjoining resort is approximately 40-50m wide, with a gradient (less than 5°). The beach is weed free with a moderately firm base. In addition, there is a beach wheelchair available for use by visitors with physical mobility restrictions.

A central ramp and steps lead from the parking area to the beach front and dolphin interaction area. From here it's about 120m to the water's edge. The walkway also provides access to the visitor centre, theatrette, outdoor amphitheatre, and to the adjoining Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort complex.

In addition to the beachside ramp, there's also a much shorter (3.9m long) wooden ramp at the entry plaza. The entry to the visitor centre display room is situated approximately 35m from the nearest accessible parking bay.

There is a large wheelchair accessible amphitheatre with overhead shade sails facing the beach. This facility has approximately 240m of bench style seating on 4 tiers (40cm high).

Parking

An accessible parking bay is provided in the parking area. A central boardwalk, with ramp and steps, lead to the beach front and dolphin interaction area.

In addition to the designated accessible bay, there is ample parking space to accommodate other visitors with mobility restrictions near the entry to the visitor centre. The parking area has bays for approximately 100 standard sized cars and/or SUVs, plus a number of long vehicle bays to accommodate larger RV’s, caravans and tourist coaches. There is also a separate parking area for boats and trailers with room to accommodate approximately 20 units.

Toilets

Toilets are available.
  • Flushable
  • Wheelchair accessible
