Site access

Wilderness Lookout

A sealed path leads from the parking area to an impressive lookout offering uninterrupted views across the Walpole Wilderness. The lookout surface is a metal grid. There are no steps along the pathway between the parking area and the end of the lookout.

Picnic area and facilities

The picnic area next to the old fire spotters hut is accessed by a paved path with no steps from the parking area. There is a smooth sealed surface around the bbq and one picnic table. The other picnic table nearby is surrounded by a gravel and leaf litter surface.

Along the path in the other direction towards the lookout there is a large shade shelter with information panels and a bench seat.

The toilets are also accessed by a sealed path from the parking area.

Mount Frankland Summit and Caldyanup Trail

The summit trail starts as a paved path with following on from the picnic area. Nearing the summit there are multiple concrete steps, a metal staircase and a near-vertical metal ladder. The staircase and ladder have handrails. The summit area has a natural sloping rough granite surface, and is surrounded by a low barrier fence.

Caldyanup Trail has a mostly natural surface with rocks and branches including some large natural rock steps. There is one short boardwalk section with a metal grid surface and a handrail.

Parking

Most of the parking area has a gravel surface and no marked bays. There is one small section with a paved surface which adjoins the paved pathways to the lookout, picnic area and toilets.

Toilets

Toilets are available.
  • Wheelchair accessible
  • Unisex

Unisex accessible toilet is provided, close to the parking area.

There are two toilets located at the end of a paved path that has a slight gradient up from the parking area.
