About this place

Discover colourful crystals, stalactites, stalagmites and walls of flowstone. Relax on seating throughout the 300m long cave and watch seasonal stream water flowing into the lake from winter to spring, creating breath-taking reflections.

Easily accessed on boardwalks and stairs, all with handrails, Calgardup Cave is suitable for all ages.

Helmets, torches and a briefing by friendly staff are provided. Bring your own enclosed footwear.

Nature-based education

Our caving and abseiling program offers adventure and exploration to students from Years 2-12. Schools have the unique opportunity to undertake science, social science and outdoor education activities in these spectacular karst and forest landscapes. Discover more.

Entry to Leeuwin-Naturaliste National Park is free.

Site access

A wide, 30m long concrete path connects the parking area to the information centre. The counter in the information centre is at standing height. There is a viewing deck and outdoor seating area next to the information centre. The path to the accessible toilets continues on from the concrete path and the last section is a wooden ramp with a gradient up to 1:14.  The path to the cave is via a timber boardwalk with about 30 steps and a further 26 stone steps on a steep pathway. 

Parking

There are no accessible car bays, parking is in the unmarked, compacted sand and gravel parking area.

Toilets are available.

  • Unisex

There is a unisex accessible toilet. There is a path 1.3m wide to the toilet with a 6.4m long ramp with a gradient of 1:19.  There are no handrails on the ramp. The path requires some changes in direction.
