Beach wheelchairs - enjoy parks together
The Parks and Wildlife Service are continuing to ensure that everyone can access WA's national parks.
Three specially designed beach wheelchairs are available to borrow allowing wheelchair users to share experiences with their families along the Ningaloo Coast.
There is no charge to use the wheelchairs, but we recommend booking in advance by contacting the Exmouth office on 08 9947 8000.
Two wheelchairs are located at the Milyering Discovery Centre in Cape Range National Park. The best locations to visit for ease of access are Sandy Bay and Turquoise Bay.
The wheelchairs can be picked up from the Milyering Discovery Centre – or, if available, a Ranger may be able to assist dropping the wheelchair off to one of the beaches.
One wheelchair is located at Coral Bay, Ningaloo Marine Park. The best location for ease of access is Bill’s Bay on the Coral Bay foreshore.
All beach wheelchairs are available to borrow throughout the year.
Exmouth Parks and Visitor Services Officer Scott Thompson said that responses to the chairs have been extremely positive “They have been used regularly and feedback from users and carers has been that their visits are tremendously enhanced,” he said.
“Families of a disabled child no longer have to split up, with the child and parent remaining in camp or in Exmouth town, while the remaining members enjoy swimming at the beach. Keeping a family together and sharing their park experience by using the chairs can be priceless."
