Christmas magic sparkled in Pemberton

Pemberton has always been a town full of natural beauty, but this Christmas, it felt even more magical.

Thanks to a $1,500 grant initiated by the Pemberton Chamber of Commerce, the Manjimup Shire and the community came together to celebrate the season with creativity and heart.

Local school kids were asked to share their vision of what Christmas in Pemberton means to them through art, and the response was amazing. They creatively captured scenes of special places like Yeagarup Dunes, flying through the trees with Pemberton Aerial Adventure, climbing the Dave Evans Bicentennial Tree, driving through Pemberton Forest and more. Six standout works were chosen to be painted on large boards, each measuring 2 by 1.5 metres, lovingly repurposed to bring some holiday cheer to the town, showcasing colourful scenes that perfectly capture the spirit of a Pemberton Christmas.

Before the boards went up on main street, the young artists got a special unveiling of their work. It was a moment of pure excitement and pride. Each painting is full of festive charm, with hidden treasures like butterflies, ladybirds, ants, and frogs waiting to be discovered—a little game for kids (and the young at heart) to enjoy.

The magic didn’t stop there. Those same six winning designs were turned into Christmas cards, now on sale at the Pemberton Visitors Centre. Every purchase supports the centre and keeps the spirit of giving alive. Plus, local cafes and restaurants joined in the fun, offering black-and-white versions of the artwork for kids to colour while families savoured a meal together.

The Chamber of Commerce has since secured additional funding to enhance the festive atmosphere for 2025, adding sparkling fairy lights, festoon lights and eye-catching displays. Volunteers pitched in to erect a towering Christmas tree, to wind fairy lights around street trees, and even bring Father Christmas into the mix, ensuring Pemberton glowed with holiday magic like never before.

What makes this initiative so special is how it reflects the heart of Pemberton—its creativity, community spirit, and love for celebrating its natural beauty in every season.

So, if you’re looking for a place where Christmas magic truly shines, come to Pemberton. See the season through the eyes of its youngest artists, and soak up the joy they’ve created for everyone to share.
