Welcoming new Campground Hosts
On Monday, October 28, we proudly welcomed 38 new volunteers into the Campground Host Program at our last induction day of 2024.
The day began with an informative presentation covering the mandatory Health and Safety requirements for Campground Host volunteers. This was followed by engaging Cultural Awareness and general information sessions designed to prepare the hosts for their upcoming roles.
During the breaks, rangers and staff from various regions around WA met with the new hosts. These interactions provided valuable insights into the duties and responsibilities of hosting and offered guidance on using Park Stay WA for campground bookings.
A key part of the day was de-escalation and conflict resolution communication training which equipped the hosts with critical skills to handle challenging situations calmly and professionally.
The day concluded with an exciting Snake Awareness workshop presented by Animal Ark. This session covered essential topics such as reptile behavior, bite signs and symptoms, and common myths. Some brave hosts even held a snake or bobtail.
We can’t wait to see the new Campground Hosts out in WA’s parks! If you do, be sure to say ‘hi’.
If you’d like to be part of the next induction day in 2025 (date to be confirmed), please email pwsvolunteers@dbca.wa.gov.au or find out more about becoming a Campground Host.
