Gloucester Lodge Picnic Area

Named after Duke of Gloucester, who stayed here in 1934, the lodge is independently operated as a recreation camp. You can use the picnic and barbecue area at the front of the lodge.

Trails

Bush Walk
2 kilometres

This two-kilometre loop trail is a relaxed, short, easy walk around the lake which is a dominant feature of Yanchep National Park.

2.6 kilometres

This 2.6 kilometre walk is ideal for anyone who would like a “taste” of the Yanchep National Park, not too hard but good enough to see and appreciate the local habitat. It is especially great for families with children, starting from the McNess House Visitor Centre.

28 kilometres

This 28 kilometre one way trail is based on the movement of Yellagonga and his people between Lake Joondalup and Yanchep. It can be completed in sections. It extends from Neil Hawkins Park in the south to Yanchep National Park in the north, traversing tuart and banksia woodland, coastal heath and former wetlands.

14 kilometres

This 14 kilometre loop trail starts at the McNess House Visitor Centre in Yanchep National Park. It takes you through the coastal plain vegetation, passing by historic bunkers and offering panoramic views from the sea to the scarp. The limestone outcrops punctuate the extensive wildflower displays in spring.  Kangaroo sightings are almost a certainty in the early morning and evening.

52 kilometres

This three day, 52 kilometre walk between Yanchep National Park and Neaves Road, in the Melaleuca Conservation Park, traverses the National Park as well as the inland coastal plain.  There are three overnight campsites along the way.

17.5 kilometres

A 17.5 kilometre loop walk through the coastal plain vegetation of Yanchep National Park.  It passes through Ridge’s campsite from the Coastal Plain Trail and in spring offers a carpet of wildflowers.  Kangaroos, the black gloved wallaby and quenda, along with Carnaby’s black cockatoos, may be spotted.

This short, one kilometre family-friendly walk is just perfect to introduce your kids to nature. Featuring interpretative signage, visiting ‘Dwerta Mia’ - the ‘house of the wild dog’ - will give you a unique experience of Australia through the eyes of Aboriginal culture as well as a better understanding of how the limestone environment has formed over hundreds of thousands of years.

The 12.4km loop Ghost House Walk Trail will take most of the day to complete, so make sure you have plenty of water your lunch and snacks. It takes you on a journey to discover the natural and cultural history of the wilderness areas in Yanchep National Park, an hour north of Perth.  Along the way you will encounter the sights and sounds of the pristine wetlands and discover the historic remains of the ‘Ghost House’.

The Caves Walk Trail is a five kilometre loop walk within the Yanchep National Park. This trail takes you past Crystal Cave where you can discover how limestone caves are formed and hear about their colourful history on guided tour. Tours can be booked at the McNess House Visitor Centre before you start our walk.
