About this campground
Big Lagoon is a medium-size campground set in low coastal scrub close to the lagoon with access for swimming and launching kayaks, canoes and SUPs. Motorised water sports are not permitted in the Big Lagoon Special Purpose Zone of Shark Bay Marine Park adjacent to the campground or the Big Lagoon Sanctuary Zone to the north.
Booking
For stays from 1 April 2026
Bookings are essential and can be made
- online and at this website only
- for one campsite only that you must camp on yourself
- up to and including the day of arrival (subject to campsite availability and your own internet service* to make a booking)
- up to 180 days (approximately six months) before arrival
*Check your mobile service provider’s coverage map but beware that the quality and reliability of service in regional and remote Australia can be variable.
Friends, family or other social groups travelling together who cannot be accommodated on the same campsite must make their own separate bookings.
If you are an outdoor education provider, licensed commercial tour operator or are organising an event (friends, family and other social groups camping together does not constitute an event), contact Parks and Wildlife Service Gascoyne Office (Denham) to discuss your requirements.
For stays before 1 April 2026
Bookings cannot be made. On arrival at the campground you may occupy any suitable vacant campsite after paying the relevant fees at the Francois Peron National Park entry station.
Campsites
Seven campsites with a raised grid platform for tents and swags and a sand space for vehicles.
12 sand surface campsites; seven are reverse-in, five are drive-through.
All campsites are unpowered.
Campsites vary significantly: check details and the campground map carefully when booking.
Facilities
No-flush pit toilets.
Sheltered gas barbecues, picnic tables and benches in the adjacent day-use area.
Campground Rules
No campfires at any time.
No dogs or other domestic animals.
Generator use is permitted 8am-9pm.
Do not empty waste from portable toilets into campground toilets. Carry waste out of the park for disposal in an authorised dump point.
Carry all waste out of the park. No bins provided.

A per person camping fee and a per vehicle park entry fee apply.

- Adult (no concession): $15 per night
- Adult (concession): $10 per night
- Child (6-15 years): $5 per night
- Infant (0-5 years): no fee
Park entry fee
Applies for motor vehicles only. Payment is not required for trailers, including camper trailers.
Single entry:
- Car/ute (no concession driver): $17
- Car/ute (concession driver): $10
- Motorcycle: $10
Or purchase one of a range of passes for multiple entries to Francois Peron and other national parks and conservation reserves.

Camping fee must be paid by Mastercard or VISA when booking.
Park entry fee may be paid when booking, on arrival at Francois Peron National Park or by purchasing a park pass.
No booking fee.
A fee may apply if you cancel or remove dates from a booking. Stricter conditions apply for peak periods. Current and upcoming peak periods for Francois Peron National Park are:

- Friday 26 September – Saturday 11 October 2025

Camping fee: pay at the Francois Peron National Park entry station, cash only.
Park entry fee: either pay single entry at the Francois Peron National Park entry station, cash only or purchase a park pass before arrival.
Safety information
Plan when to visit. Consider traveling with a personal location beacon (PLB). In the event you need to be rescued it could save your life!
- Drinking water is not provided.
- No-flush pit toilets are the only personal hygiene facility.
- December to April can be extremely hot.
- Nights can be cold from June to September.
- Storms are common between May and October throughout WA.
- Francois Peron National Park is in very remote Australia.
- Ensure you have sufficient supplies (including water, food, fuel, medication and first aid), and equipment and clothing appropriate for the conditions before travelling.

Western Shield - The Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions undertakes 1080 baiting at this location to reduce the impacts of feral cats and foxes on native wildlife.
Meat baits containing 1080 poison are laid in or around this area on an ongoing basis. 1080 is poisonous to humans and will kill domestic cats and dogs. Pets are not permitted in this park.
