Rainbow Valley

We recognise and acknowledge Nanda people as the traditional owners of Kalbarri National Park.

Sands and silts containing an assortment of minerals have been layered, compacted and weathered to form this spectrum in stone. Rainbows may be seen in the sea mist.

About this place

Unique coastal features can be seen at Rainbow Valley from near the parking area and from the Rainbow Valley Trail.

This loop walk links Rainbow Valley parking area and Mushroom Rock through the valley and along the top of the cliff overlooking the ocean. Complete the whole loop or walk out and back along either the coastal path or through the more sheltered valley. Keep to the trail and beware of loose or wet rocks and very steep sections. Be especially careful in strong winds on exposed rocky sections. Learn about the botanical and geological features along the way.

  • Distance: 3km
  • Time: Allow 1-2 hours return for the loop
  • Class 4

Need to know

No dogs

No pets allowed

Park entry fees apply

Standard park entry fees apply for Kalbarri National Park.

Site access

An uneven path leads from the parking area towards the coast and the Mushroom Rock – Rainbow Valley Loop Trail. Erosion gullies and exposed rock require a moderate to high level of fitness to negotiate.

Parking

No designated, accessible parking bays are provided, and the surface is unsealed and uneven. The parking area is set well back from the coast so the views are restricted and there are better coastal vantage points at other sites. There are 12 bays plus one long vehicle bay.

Toilets

No toilets at this location. Follow Leave No Trace principles.
