Millstream Homestead

We recognise and acknowledge Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people as the traditional owners of Millstream Chichester National Park.

Built in 1919, this pastoral station homestead is the hub for exploring the Millstream Chichester National Park.

About this place

The Homestead area features a restored family kitchen, irrigated lawns, shady picnic and barbecue areas and toilets.

In the Homestead you can find out about the history of the Millstream Station, first established in the 1800's. 

The Homestead is open daily between 8am and 4pm. It is not always staffed but rangers frequently visit as they are stationed here. Follow the signs to the ranger's office as online bookings can be made on the verandah.

Follow the Wetland Walk to learn about the areas natural and cultural history.

  • Time: 30 minute loop.

Alternatively, take the longer Warrungunha Trail - from the wetlands, through the paperbark forest and over the spinifex grasslands to Cliff Lookout and return. 

  • Distance: 8km
  • Class 3
  • Time: 2.5 hours return.

Site access

The Homestead Walk is 750m return. Most of the trail surface is firm and compacted, there are some sections with loose gravel and mud which can become boggy when wet.

Parking

No designated accessible bays. The terminus gravel parking area comprises of a 200m long loop road with 30 vehicle bays plus 5 long bays. The bays are marked by metal bollards and wheel stops. A gravel path provides barrier-free access from the parking area to the visitor centre and campground. The parking area is located 100m from the Homestead with access via a compacted gravel path and a wide concrete veranda that encircles the Homestead.

There is a concrete ramp to the accessible toilet. The nearest parking bay is 95m from the accessible toilet with access via a compacted gravel path and concrete veranda.
