About this place

At Sunrise View, a natural flat platform part-way up the escarpment provides a great place from which to watch the sunrise over the flat plains to the East. There is a short, rocky walk trail to reach the viewing point from the carpark.

The early morning sunlight illuminating the cliffs of the escarpment is also a sight worth seeing, and can be viewed from the Sunrise View parking area.

    Sunrise View Trail

    • Distance: 300m return
    • Time: Allow 30 minutes
    • Difficulty: Class 3

    Escarpment Base Trail

    This trail links Sunrise View with Honeycomb Gorge and Temple Gorge campground through relatively flat terrain with interesting geology. Keep a lookout for the sandalwood shrub growing alongside the trail.

    5.8 kilometres

    For a great overall impression of the geographical marvel that is the Kennedy Ranges, you can do no better than walk the 5.8 kilometre return Escarpment Base Trail.  There is interesting geology as well as sandalwood (Santalum spicatum) to observe between Temple Gorge Campground and Honeycomb Gorge Trail. A lookout area is a feature of the section between Honeycomb Gorge and Sunrise View trails.
