Site access

Access to both upper and lower Weano Gorge involves a 1km (45 min to 1 hour return) hike and is only suited to experienced and fit walkers. While the first section of the track from the carpark is formed, beyond that, hikers must negotiate large rocks, short steep descents (including some with no steps) and seasonal pools.

Access to Handrail Pool involves a short (150m or 30m return) hike across steep, rough terrain with slippery surfaces. It is only suited to highly experienced and fit hikers.

The trail to Hancock Gorge is a 1.5km (2 hour return) hike involving a steep descent with numerous uneven rock steps and ladders. It is only suited to very experienced, and fit bushwalkers.

Parking

There are no designated accessible parking bays, but there is ample set-down room and parking space to accommodate visitors with reduced mobility.

The Weano Recreation Area has a large loop parking area with room to accommodate 100 or more vehicles (depending on the type of vehicle, and how close people park to one another).

The parking area comprises a series of one-way internal connector roads and several large (70m by 20m and 50m by 20m) gravel areas. The perimeter is demarcated by timber bollards. The parking area surface is generally level (i.e. gradients under 2°), with a well compacted gravel base and some loose stones.

The nearest parking area is located approximately 25m from the toilet.

Toilets

Toilets are available.
  • Wheelchair accessible

A concrete path (12m long) with a maximum gradient of 9.3° (gradients generally less than 5°) leads from the edge of the gravel parking area to the toilet entrance. The nearest parking area approximately 25m from the toilet.
