Karijini Visitor Centre

We recognise and acknowledge Banyjima, Innawonga and Kurrama people as the Traditional Owners of Karijini National Park.

Site access

The visitor centre has world-class interpretive displays and is managed by local Aboriginal traditional owners.

There are 2 near-level metal ramps (both 150cm wide, with no handrails). These provide barrier free access across minor drainage lines along the trail. Part way around the loop walk, there is a curved rock seating wall (approximately 7m long, with a seating height of 45cm).

Access from the parking area to the visitor centre is via a barrier free gravel and concrete path. It includes a short metal ramp way over a drainage line. The path gradients range from near level to a maximum of 3.3° (mainly less than 2°).

Access throughout the centre is barrier free with sufficient room for wheelchair users to move around exhibits/displays; there are some curved passage ways with clearances ranging from 124cm to 183cm.

Parking

While there are no designated accessible bays, there is ample space to accommodate people with disabilities. The bitumen terminus loop parking area has 24 vehicle bays plus 3 'staff only' bays. They are demarcated by metal wheel stops and there are also 7 extra long vehicle bays.

The nearest accessible parking is located 93m from the Visitor Centre entrance, with barrier free access via a compacted gravel path (the first 55m) and a concrete walkway (the remaining 38m). The path gradients range from near level to a maximum of 3.3° (mainly less than 2°). The entry walkway includes a metal ramp (3m wide).

Toilets

Toilets are available.
  • Wheelchair accessible

There is one unisex accessible toilet which is accessed via a compacted, gravel path and concrete entry plaza. The path has an incline and a lip where the entry plaza and concrete floor meet.

The Visitor Centre has a unisex accessible toilet plus separate male and female toilets. The toilets are approximately 40m from the staff parking bays. Access is via a compacted gravel path. There is an entry plaza that abuts onto concrete near the entry to the toilets.

The maximum gradient of this barrier free access is 2.9°. There is a slight lip where the gravel entry plaza and concrete floor meet, near the toilet entrance.
